The Newt in Somerset is not a hotel, it’s an estate, the Emily Estate, probably at least 800 acres, although some people say it’s more. It belongs to South Africa’s media-design couple, Koos Bekker, the Tencent and Napster genius, and his wife, Karen Roos.

It’s 2 A.M. in Shanghai and the Sybaritic Single is so appalled by the lack of thoughtful service at Amanyungun that he texts The Peninsula Shanghai requesting their Rolls-Royce and a bottle of champagne to be ready at 8 A.M. to take him to the airport.

You eat darn well at Six Senses Zighy Bay. Girlahead once had the exhilaration of dining at Sense at The Edge, over 1000m mountain top, looking down from on high to the resort and the beach.

Diletta Guarino was there to say welcome at Six Senses Zighy Bay. With enhanced roads some of the way and a splendid new UAE-Oman border crossing, it’s now under two hours’ drive to get to the 16-year old resort from Dubai, by far the easiest way of arriving.
