Bangkok Luxury - 5
Capella Bangkok’s colourful Phra Nakhon breakfast pastries make anyone smile. Let’s go back to the hotel’s arrival procedure. It brings Girlahead into the public area, a lounge that is truly a living room, used at all hours by influencers and ladies, mostly young, who ’lunch’. All elegantly-set tables are taken by quarter to one, mostly by Millennials with an air of knowledgeable familiarity. Part of a wall screen slides back to give access to the private hotel space. There’s a cavernously long, minimal-decorated, marble-floored walkway to the Living Room, where there is check-in and which has Cin-Cin, the equivalent of club lounge happening cocktail every sunset. Girlahead has now made two cameo appearances. On both occasions she was one of a total appearance of three, the lack of activity caused not so much by the space – dark wood plantation shutters are not really welcoming - but by the positive attraction of one’s room. Those in the seven PIA-designed riverside villas, with private gardens and plunge pools, have even less reason to venture out. Auriga Spa works with GOCO, and a pickleball court is scheduled.
Wednesday through Sunday you can dine on-site at Mauro Colagreco’s two-star Côte, but it was Monday so Girlahead sufficed with the full-colour booklet in her room that introduces Colagreco, his Bangkok chef Davide Garavaglia, restaurant manager Gwennole Le Bras, from Brittany, and the Puglian sommelier, Sabino Jacobone. And anyway she was more than happy to do seafood pasta and Masseria Li Veli Susumaniello 2023 Salento – she could eat at Phra Nakhon, preferably outside, riverside, morning, noon and night.
Capella Bangkok is the hotel that makes you want to stay at home, here.
