Girlahead’s already mentioned the elevators at Rosewood San Paulo. The developer apparently had been introduced to local artist Walmer Corréa, who specializes in exquisite detailed drawings that are, in each case, botanical beauties.

Corréa was commissioned to decorate the interiors of all the elevators. See one of them above. They’re just gorgeous (sadly, since the elevators only rise through four floors, there’s not much time to admire the art). Each rendering is individually framed, the whole fitted together as a patchwork jigsaw.

Girlahead had the great joy of going to visit the artist, who works in an airy studio which he shares with two whippets who seem to behave themselves pretty well. Typically Brazilian style, the apartment block is so integral with big green banana-type plants that one’s not sure if the greenery is coming into the building or whether the building was slotted into the greenery. Whatever, it’s so suitable for the work that he’s doing.

Art is a way of life for much of the people of Sao Paulo, and nature certainly is as well, and those two attributes actually sum up, as if a quick interpretation of, the unique complex that is Rosewood San Paulo. History that was built around usefulness to the community coupled with today’s design, food and wine and thoughtful service. Once tasted one wants to go back for more.
