Christmas – 28

It’s not often that you see the boss of a top hotel working out during the day but then it’s not commonplace to encounter a one-off of the calibre of Peter Draminsky, RVP and GM at Four Seasons Singapore. He’s Danish, and he has a home back in the Scandinavian countryside that gives him the recovery that he often needs – not so much from stress, but the mental toil of running an extremely busy 254-room hotel. He also has a house on Majorca. He’s a stamp collector, keeps his treasures back in Denmark.

Four Seasons Singapore is really into wellness in a big way, as Girlahead discovered at lunch in Pool House, in the central wellness area. Menus include nutritional information, and the foods taste really good. Start, say, with an ahi tuna tataki salad with togarashi and crispy wild rice, and go on to slow-roasted salmon with shio kombu, baby cress, scallions, zuzu soy cream (honestly, it’s one of the best salmon you ever remember).

Take at least a quick visit to what used to be the hotel’s indoor tennis court, which fortunately has been transformed into several integral gym areas – by integral, this means there are private gyms within the main gym, for Persons Private and shrouded ladies who don’t or are not allowed to uncover in front of others, to work out. In the main gym, pieces are separated, placed apparently by private trainers rather than by designers who think joggers should be set symmetrically side by side. Private personal trainers realize that if you’re working on a treadmill, you don’t necessarily want to be flanked either side by people working treadmills – only much faster than you. The equipment is Technogym, and towels are neatly set in a central space. The facilities also include pickleball and padel, and an outdoor tennis court, plus Professor Andrea Maier’s Chi Longevity, which is now integrated with SPARKD, run by another ageless-addict female, Anna Milani.

Unusually are no private members for the hotel’s wellness facilities, says Peter Draminsky between yet more pushes of the pedals. Of course he’s constantly asked by outsiders to come in.
