Sybaritic Single Salutes Thoughtful Luxury

The Sybaritic Single indulges by the pool at The Chedi Muscat when he receives the news that he has to be in Istanbul the following day – which means quite a detour and flying overnight.

He quickly sends a message to the hotel requesting a late check-out, that’s instantly confirmed until 21:00 – the luxury of absolute flexibility. And what’s even more appreciated is the housekeeping: his suite keeps being refreshed just as it would be any other day. The Chedi know how to win loyalty.

Arriving at The Peninsula Istanbul at 07:00 the next morning is a bliss: he’s instantly shown to his ground-level suite with a private garden, steps away from the Bosphorus. It’s such an appealing welcome after the strictly enforced 15:00 (on the dot!) check-in rules at Four Seasons in Osaka and Chiang Mai.

Despite the ungodly arrival hour, a bottle of champagne is already waiting on ice, along with vases with flowers, fresh fruit, chocolates, baklava and Turkish tea with a welcome card that is soon quietly replaced by another one: the hotel remembers the Sybaritic Single’s preference for hand-written welcome cards as well as caviar – tins of Imperial Caviar keep appearing. If only they stocked his favorite Petrossian brand instead!

The flexible check-in and check-out policy of The Peninsula hotels, cemented as a brand standard, is something he appreciates over other benefits – it was useful on a recent stay in Paris and will be most useful again on his next visit to Shanghai. And most certainly, housekeeping touches up the room even on the deaprture day, including fresh fruit and flowers. That’s to him the essence of thoughtful luxury, rarely seen at most of other five-star establishments.
